The looser room.

Sarah Chen May 3, 2026 4 min read

This is the first post. It's here so the room has something to render against — typography weights, line lengths, spacing between paragraphs, the way a quote breaks the rhythm and pulls your eye back. The first letter of the first paragraph picks up the accent colour, just enough to feel deliberate without being precious. If this paragraph reads comfortably across two screens — laptop and phone — the body type is doing its job.

Insider Knowledge is the looser room. Newsroom is for builders shipping at 2am; this is for the conversations that don't fit there. What I noticed but couldn't write up. The thing a lab said sideways that I think is actually the headline. The post I'd write to a friend before I'd write it to an audience.

What this isn't

It isn't another newsletter that tells you what was announced. The newsroom does that. It also isn't think-piece-of-the-week — I don't have weekly takes, and the ones I'd manufacture for a deadline aren't worth your time.

The honest version of "what I'm thinking about" beats the polished version of "what I'm supposed to think about" — every time, for the kind of reader who's still here.

What it is

Short essays. Half-formed reads. Sometimes a single image and a paragraph. The voice will be closer to how I'd say it than how it should be written. If a post is two sentences because two sentences is what's true, that's what publishes.

I'm doing it in seven languages because that's how the rest of Zubnet works — and because writing the same idea across seven voices in my own head is one of the more honest editing passes I have. Translations land at the same time as the English; if one of them feels off, please tell me, and I'll fix it.

Cadence

No promises. When something's worth writing, it goes up. When the newsroom feed has too much marketing in it for me to filter cleanly, I might write here instead of there. seen.db tracks the news; this directory tracks me.
